Roddey Engineering's Murdaugh Registered in Alaska

Richard Murdaugh, the Manager of Process Simulations for Roddey Engineering Services, Inc. (RES), has fulfilled the requirements to be registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Alaska. Anticipating more design work in the region, Murdaugh attended an intensive seminar on Arctic Engineering in Seattle in January.

The Arctic Engineering course that is required of all registered professional engineers examines the unique conditions that exist in Alaska including permafrost and the cyclic forces on in-ground structures caused by the freeze-thaw process. "We take so many things for granted in Louisiana that can cause serious problems in Alaska," Murdaugh said.

With the addition of Alaska, Roddey Engineering personnel are registered in multiple states. Registration as a professional engineer allows the engineers to offer engineering services in the respective states. States have requirements of varying degrees of complexity that must be fulfilled before authorization is granted to the individual engineers to affix an official seal to engineering work done in that state. The requirements include completion of specific courses, passing rigorous exams on the Fundamentals and the Principals & Practices of Engineering, and continuing education. The individual "State Boards of Engineering" are the entities commissioned to protect public safety by assuring the competency of engineers who do work in the state.

RES president, Bob Roddey, stated, "Our vision at RES is to provide excellent, cost-effective, professional services using best engineering practices, in full compliance with local engineering statutes."
