RES was founded by John B. "Bob" Roddey whose background,
professional training and education are in the engineering field
as it pertains to the oil refining industry. Bob was employed
by UOP for 20 years and did refinery service work for most of
this time. During the time of Bob's employment, UOP was the top
refinery engineering company worldwide.
Bob worked as a field operator on jobs worldwide for a number
of years. For a period of time he worked in the Shreveport Catalyst
Plant. Bob has also worked in the UOP Des Plaines Office. Bob
advanced in UOP to district Service Manager in the UOP Houston
office. He has acquired a thorough understanding of the design
and operation of most equipment used in the refining industry.
Bob has a comprehensive understanding of refinery processing and
process control. This knowledge was developed from a hands-on
approach. This varied experience has qualified RES to provide
many services to the Refining Industry.
In 1979, Bob was nominated to serve as a panel member at the
NPRA Question and Answer Session. He has been a member of the
screening committee for the NPRA Q&A session each year since
serving on the panel in 1979. He is an active participant at the
fall NPRA Q&A sessions.
In 1978, Bob joined Pennzoil Company as the Chief Process Engineer
working on the installation of their refinery and Lube unit in
Shreveport. When the units were built, he was promoted to Operations
Manager and served in this capacity until the units were started
up. Bob was then transferred to the Pennzoil Technology Group
in The Woodlands, Texas where he worked as a Technical consultant
to the Senior Vice President.
In 1985, Bob left Pennzoil and started Roddey Engineering Services.
Through contacts in the refining industry, he was able to get
services contracts with several refining companies. Since its
formation, RES has grown and the demand for its services has increased.
RES now has 9 full time employees and access to as many as 30
part time employees.
